High Tide Creative’s Vice-President and Creative Director, Tom Lewis, was made aware in July 2009 that three of his t-shirt designs had been published in one of the most prestigious design publications in the country. In fact, they were the only winning t-shirt design entry and were given an entire spread to be showcased. In 2006, Tom submitted the designs to the competition while working for another agency. That same year, he left to start High Tide Creative and was never notified of the award. As luck would have it, Tom’s former Creative Director, Chris Enter, brought it to his attention when reviewing the 2006 Graphis Design Annual for ideas.
“This is as good as it gets,” Tom explained, “For my work to be included in this book is one of the highest honors awarded in the graphic design field. I am very humbled that it has been showcased in the same publication as some of my design heroes.”
The three complimentary designs are commemorative illustrations of New Bern’s City Hall, iconic ”bear“ symbol and the city’s historic waterfront. There are plans for the shirts to be re-printed and sold in 2010 to commemorate the city’s 300th anniversary celebration.
