Open Kernel Labs (OK Labs), the leading provider of embedded virtualization software for mobile phones and broadband Internet devices, today announced that its market-leading mobile virtualization solution, OKL4, has again been included in the VisionMobile 100 Million Club. As a further distinction, OK Labs is one of only 17 companies recognized by VisionMobile with software products surpassing 500 million deployments worldwide, joining a list that includes Mentor Graphics, Nokia, Nuance, and Qualcomm.
The semi-annual 100 Million Club list celebrates software suppliers that have established significant share in the mobile handset market through deployment in 100 million or more handsets. The 2H-2009 edition of the 100 Million Club comprises 30 software products from 26 companies.
“Despite the apparent opportunity in the annual billion unit handset market, very few software companies have managed to overcome the commercial and technical challenges inherent in the mobile industry,” said VisionMobile Research Director, Andreas Constantinou.
OK Labs software powers must-have products including the NexusOne, HTC Hero, Motorola Cliq, Palm Pre (now HP), Toshiba TG01, and other popular handsets. Moreover, the OKL4 Microvisor enabled the world’s first commercially-available, fully-virtualized, mass-market smartphone, the Motorola Evoke QA4.
“Expect even greater deployment and accelerated growth in the near future, as OKL4 enables a new wave of lower-cost smartphones and other mass-market devices, based on Android and other open OSes,” said Steve Subar, President and CEO, OK Labs.
OK Labs Mass-Market Smartphone Solution
Growth in the smartphone segment continues to exceed industry expectations and the next opportunity for growth will be influenced by sales of cheaper mid-range devices based on Android and other open OSes. OK Labs is first to market with a Mass-Market Smartphone Solution proven to deliver a rich user experience at a reduced cost.
